The CCH Football program is one of the most popular programs at Covington Catholic. Competing on the freshman, JV, and Varsity levels, the football team is open to any student who is dedicated to making himself and the team better. No prior playing experience is necessary, and there is a no-cut policy. Every student athlete who commits himself to all practices and conditioning sessions is "on the team."
Varsity/JV
Daily workouts and practices begin immediately after the KHSAA dead period in early July, and the season runs through October with post-season play running through November. Members of the team are expected to participate in the winter conditioning program beginning in January if they are not participating in a winter sport. The JV/Varsity football team also conducts a "spring" practice period every year for 2-3 weeks during the Spring semester. The Varsity football team competes once per week typically on Friday night or on Saturday afternoon, with JV games on either Saturday morning or Monday afternoon.
Freshmen
Freshmen typically have an initial sign-up meeting in May of their eighth grade year. They will practice 3 days a week during the month of June before the Dead Period. Mandatory practice for the freshman team begins in July immediately following the KHSAA dead period. Daily practices will be held from July through October with games once per week-typically on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. After the season, those freshmen who are not participating in a winter sport, are expected to participate in strength and conditioning sessions beginning in January as directed by the head coach.
